Guide to Procedures Preamble

One of the tasks assigned to the Standing Committee at the 2001 Forum in Hamilton was to suggest a name for the Forum which would be more Indicative of the Christian basis of the movement. The Committee canvassed parishes and JRC's with a wide variety of suggestions but was unable to discover a title which was commonly acceptable. Accordingly, in order to meet the task set in Hamilton, the Committee decided to place a name before the 2003 Forum on the basis that this would be the only suggestion and that, if it was not acceptable, no further action would be taken.  The 2003 Forum decided, by consensus, to adopt the new name. Some confusion has existed since then as to the ramifications of that decision. This preamble therefore is designed to remove that confusion. Accordingly:

• The name applies to the Forum only and not its constituent parishes.

• No parish is required to change its name.
• There is no intention that the change of name is the precursor to the formation of a separate denomination.

• There is no linkage to be inferred from the name to any of the United Churches movements in other parts of the world.
• The term Cooperative Ventures within this Guide will continue to be the operative term for parishes.
• Partners continue to dialogue
